Possible settings: Modern American hospital — surgical and inpatient. Plays as a metro medical centre, a private hospital or specialist clinic, or with a redress, a veterinary or research facility.
The operating theatre is the reason to book this set. It is a complete room — table, surgical light, anaesthesia column, monitors and stainless scrub-through doors — and it is the single hardest hospital interior to get in the real world, because working ORs are not available to productions at any price.
Around it sits the rest of a hospital. Reception and a waiting area with gang seating. A corridor that connects the geography. Private patient rooms with beds, headwalls and window backings. A multi-bed ward. And a private suite with lounge seating that plays as a VIP room or a consultant's office.
The practicals work, the walls are 13-foot flats, and the ceiling is open to the truss for lighting from above. The set stands year-round, so most productions are shooting within hours of load-in instead of spending a build day.
One thing to know before you scout it: there is no emergency department here. No trauma bay, no ambulance entrance. If your story lives in an ER, this is not your set. If it lives in surgery, recovery or a ward, it is.
